Thobe Size & Fit Guide

How thobe sizing works, how to measure yourself at home, and how to choose between Slim and Regular so your thobe falls exactly as it should.

A thobe should feel considered rather than fussed over. The good news is that finding your size is simpler than it looks, because an Al Qamar thobe is defined by a single measurement. This guide walks you through how our sizing works, how to measure yourself at home in a few unhurried minutes, and how to choose between our Slim and Regular fits so the garment falls the way it should.

How thobe sizing works

Unlike a shirt sized by collar or chest, a thobe is sized by length — the distance in inches from the top of the shoulder to the hem. When you select a size on a product page, you are choosing this length. The width and proportions are then cut to match, so the garment reads as a single, clean line from shoulder to floor.

Because everything follows from length, a single accurate measurement is all you need. Take a moment to get it right and the rest falls into place. If you would like to see how each length maps to height, our interactive size chart lets you explore the full range.

How to measure yourself at home

There are two reliable ways to find your length. The first uses a thobe or long garment you already wear well; the second uses a measuring tape against the body. Either takes only a few minutes.

Using a garment you already love

  1. Lay a well-fitting thobe or long robe flat on a bed or table, smoothing out any folds.
  2. Find the highest point of the shoulder, beside the neckline.
  3. Measure straight down to the bottom hem, keeping the tape flat and vertical.
  4. Note the number in inches — this is your length.

Measuring against the body

  1. Stand upright in front of a mirror, in the footwear you would usually wear.
  2. Place the end of a soft tape at the top of your shoulder, close to the base of the neck.
  3. Let the tape fall naturally down the front of the body.
  4. Stop where you want the hem to sit — around the top of the foot or the ankle bone — and read the measurement.
Tip

Where the hem falls is partly personal. A hem near the top of the foot reads formal and elegant, ideal for Eid or Jummah, while resting at the ankle bone allows easier movement. If you spend long periods in prayer, a fraction shorter keeps the hem clear as you rise and sit.

Slim or Regular

Our Slim fit is tapered through the chest and sleeves for a tailored, contemporary appearance. It suits leaner and average builds, and anyone who prefers a defined silhouette. The lines stay close without restricting, so the thobe looks intentional rather than loose.

Our Regular fit is cut looser, with a relaxed drape and extra room through the body. It offers traditional comfort and ease of movement, and tends to flatter fuller builds or anyone who simply prefers generous space. Both fits share the same refined fabric and finish — the difference is only in how close the cloth sits to you.

If you are weighing the two, our choosing guide talks through occasion, color and fit together, and the fabric guide explains how our mid-weight blend drapes in each cut.

A note on sleeve length

Sleeve proportions are cut to follow the overall length, so a longer thobe carries a correspondingly longer sleeve. On the Slim fit the sleeve is a touch narrower for a tailored look; on the Regular it falls with a little more ease. A well-judged sleeve should rest around the wrist bone, long enough to sit cleanly when your arms are at your sides.

What to do between sizes

If your measurement lands between two lengths, let your preference for the hem decide. Choose the longer length for a more formal, floor-skimming line, or the shorter one for a little more freedom in movement. When you are unsure, most men are happiest sizing to the longer length and wearing it a touch higher. Whatever you choose, confirm it against the size chart before ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should a thobe fit?

A thobe should hang in a clean line from the shoulder, with the hem resting around the top of the foot or the ankle bone. The shoulders should sit comfortably and the sleeves reach the wrist. Slim and Regular fits differ only in how close the cloth sits through the chest and sleeves.

How do I measure without a tape?

Use a thobe or long garment you already wear well. Lay it flat, then measure from the highest point of the shoulder straight down to the hem. If you have no tape at all, mark the length on a length of string or ribbon and compare it against a ruler afterwards.

What if I am between lengths?

Let the hem guide you. Size up to the longer length for a formal, floor-skimming look, or down to the shorter length for easier movement. When in doubt, most men prefer the longer length worn slightly higher. Always confirm against the size chart.

Slim or Regular?

Choose Slim for a tailored, defined silhouette that suits leaner and average builds, or Regular for a relaxed drape with extra room and traditional comfort. Both use the same fabric and finish. Our choosing guide covers the decision in more detail.

Where should the hem sit?

Around the top of the foot for a formal look, or at the ankle bone for more ease of movement. If you spend long periods in prayer, a fraction shorter keeps the hem clear as you rise and sit.
